Holiday hosting guide

When should you clean carpet before holiday guests?

Book a weekday two to seven days before guests arrive. That is close enough for the carpet to look fresh and early enough for it to be dry, with the furniture back in place. Appointments are Monday through Friday and online openings start two days out, so pick your time as soon as your hosting date is set.

Timing

Work back from the day guests arrive.

Three scheduling facts shape the plan: weekdays only, online openings two days out, and one booking per time slot.

Hosting on a weekday

Hosting Thanksgiving on Thursday, November 26? A cleaning earlier that week or the week before leaves room for drying and putting the house back together. Check the booking page for open times.

Guests arriving on a weekend

There are no Saturday or Sunday appointments, so choose a weekday earlier in the week, ideally Wednesday or Thursday, to keep a day of buffer.

Book once your date is set

Online openings start two days out and each time slot takes one booking, so the sooner you look, the more times you can choose from.

Plan about two hours

A typical visit takes about 2 hours, and the carpet typically dries in about 1.5 to 2 hours after that under ordinary conditions.

Which rooms

Start with the rooms guests will actually use.

Count the carpeted rooms, hallways and stairs on the path your guests take, then pick the package that fits. Closets are included with their room.

Just the gathering rooms

Living room, dining room and the front hallway are three areas: the $75 small package.

The whole guest path

Living, dining and family rooms, the guest bedroom, your own bedroom, two hallways and the staircase: the $99 standard package.

Pet spots on the route

Choose a pet-treatment package instead: $85 for up to three rooms, or $149 for the standard area.

One more room

A finished-basement family room or a second staircase beyond your package is $15 per extra area.

Plus applicable tax. See the Wichita price guide for more example homes.

Before the visit

A short list for the day before.

Clear the floor

Pick up toys, shoes, cords and small items, and move breakables off furniture that may need to be moved.

Decide on furniture

Standard couches and loveseats can be moved when practical. Move beds, large sectionals and heavy pieces beforehand only if you want the carpet beneath them cleaned.

Note your priorities

Point out spots, traffic lanes and pet areas during the walkthrough, or add them to your booking notes.

Keep pets comfortable

A quiet room or crate during the visit can make things easier for a nervous pet, and keeps paws off damp carpet afterward.

While guests are here

Keep the clean carpet looking clean.

Stop dirt at the door

A good doormat inside and out, plus a spot for shoes by the entry, keeps most outdoor grit off the carpet.

Blot spills right away

Scoop up any solids first, then blot with a clean white cloth, working from the outside of the spill inward. Don't rub or scrub.

Go easy on stubborn spots

Hard scrubbing can rough up the fibers and spread a spot. If something stays, leave it for the next cleaning rather than fighting it.

Don't forget the couch

Guests spend as much time on the sofa as on the floor. Upholstery cleaning is priced separately on its own page.

Honest limits

What a pre-holiday cleaning can't do.

Wear and damage

Cleaning can't repair worn, burned, torn or faded carpet.

Old pet damage

Pet treatment helps, but deep or old urine may leave odor or stains. Permanent stain or odor removal cannot be promised.

Dry time

About 1.5 to 2 hours is typical, not promised. Humid days, closed-off rooms and thick carpet take longer.

Weekends and same day

There are no weekend or same-day appointments. Online openings start two days out.

Common questions

Holiday carpet cleaning, answered.

How far ahead of holiday guests should I clean my carpet?

A weekday two to seven days before guests arrive works well: close enough that the carpet still looks fresh, early enough that it is dry and the furniture is back in place. Appointments are Monday through Friday, and online openings start two days out.

Will the carpet be dry before guests arrive?

With low-moisture cleaning, carpet typically dries in about 1.5 to 2 hours under ordinary conditions. Humidity, airflow and the carpet itself can change that, so dry time is typical, not promised. A day or more between the cleaning and your guests removes the worry.

Can I book carpet cleaning on a weekend before a holiday?

No. Appointments are Monday through Friday only. If guests arrive on a Saturday, choose a weekday earlier that week.

How much does it cost to clean the rooms guests will use?

Up to three areas is $75, or $85 with pet treatment. The standard package covers up to five rooms, two hallways and one standard staircase for $99, or $149 with pet treatment. Each extra area is $15. Plus applicable tax.
